Western pleasure mare/ reining sire

Looking to breed an aqha we mare to a Reiner. Is this a bad idea?? Suggestions?

And what is your goal with this cross?

Not a cross I would recommend... WP horses have a natural slowness, while reining horses have a natural "go"... But it's hard to say sight unseen. You might get a best of both worlds where you could do a little pleasure, reining, western riding, and pattern. Or you could get a horse with neither... Probably won't be the best of the best at either particular discipline.

But, hey, I'm the person who bred her WP mare to a HUS stallion because I wanted a versatile all-around/pattern horse. I got what I wanted.

Ultimate goal is ranch horse pleasure.

As in the AQHA class? Considering how new it is, I wouldn't breed for it until it is better established and apparent the type of horse that is going to be rewarded.

Would like to see pictures of both mare and stallion to see if the would produce a conformationally sound foal.

Haven't considered the sire yet. Looking for more advice, but a video of the mare is on YouTube 'Too Sleepy To Scoot'

Ranch horse pleasure, a new class, is to show a working ranch horse.
They are not looking for any kind of western pleasure movement and your horse would not be able to show western pleasure as western pleasure horses can not show ranch pleasure. So basically you would be breeding for one class(which most do) but a new class.(2011)
I would be much more inclined to show a nice cow/ranch bred horse like it is intended for.

Don't. You can buy a nice going ranch type horse.

Check out Spooks Gotta Whiz, the 2010 NRHA Futurity winner. He has amazing western pleasure movement, he is stunning! I wouldn't mind a Hot Pretense mare to cross on my reining stallion to show myself and see how it works out :)
