Green Reiner class/ ranch Reiner class? Hi reining people! Dumb question, but what's the difference (Alberta) between a green Reiner class and a ranch Reiner class? And can someone give me a run down on schooling shows ie: what to expect, attire etc.....it's funny I'm old at something's, but new at others! Must make haste! Thanks! |
Not sure about Alberta or what association you are looking to show in. The ranch reining patterns vary between associations and compared to regular reining, they might include all the gaits or at least the trot in addition to the lope. A huge sliding stop is usually not necessary just a good hind end stop. |

I've been to lots of shows and ridden and warmed up friends horses in the warm up pen......but never been put under the spotlight.....OMG I'm going to run to the bathroom! LOL! But now it's my time!!! Yay!!!! So I was thinking of perhaps entering a green Reiner or ranch reiner class this spring......but I'm thinking I should go t some schooling shows first......which I have not done before.....I'm really needing some direction here!!! Excuse me.....bathroom is calling! |
Gah! I know how you feel! I get SO nervous. Like you I rode under trainers and rode horses in the warm up pen. Good way to get used to the enviroment but still doesn't help for the jitters when you go in for yourself! I think small local shows are a good way to start. It seems to take a lot of pressure off and most of the folks there are in the same postion, trying to get show experience. Plus they are less expensive and most likely closer to home. I like the ranch horse shows, they are pretty laid back, the folks are friendly and you don't have to buy a pile of new equipment and clothes to stay trendy. |
Yeah! It's good because I have a lot of friends at higher levels than me, and I know they'd support me and cheer me on.......however I sometimes think it would be nice to travel a hundred miles away and remain anonymous so that if I screwed up they weren't all watching!!! LOL! Oh well, I have a goal....good start! I will try to find out about the ranch Reiner classes and green Reiner classes coming up this spring....and schooling shows are a must! |

You will have to keep us posted and have someone take pics! |
For sure! Pics and a vid!!!! The one thing I dread is to hear from the sidelines while I'm running my pattern is someone say 'your schooling!'........I discovered what that meant at a show, I don't ever want to hear it!!!!! Lol! Actually, I probably wouldn't care if my husband came to a show, because he has no idea about anything! So he wouldn't know if s ethng went wrong unless I told him! its when the experts are watching......oh my! |
OP you might want to look for a stock horse association in your area too. Check out the American Stock Horse Association website americanstockhorse.org: About ASHA The shows are much less formal and usually involve a clinic too. Often a clinic on Saturday, when you get to practice what you will do in the show on Sunday. The format is very good and the people are very good and helpful. It's fun! |
