How to clean cloth with leather reins?

So today I picked up some reins for cheap from a consignment shop that are mostly cloth with leather markers and ends. They are FILTHY though :( I dont want to ruin the leather on them by washing them off with water but I cant use leather soap on cloth! Does anyone have any ideas?

I would wash them with water, and soap than condition the leather if you need too, they should be fine.

Ok, thanks! Thats what I was thinking but I wasn't sure if there was a *proper* way to do it

Don't know a proper way. I just know a way that is easiest, and works. I'm guilty of throwing 10 pairs of webbed and leather reins in the washer with a little soap, and air drying them, no way was I washing by hand. The leather wasn't ruined and they look good as new.
