I just wanted to take a moment to say that I'm thankful for my helmet. I NEVER used to ride with a helmet growing up, but got used to one since it's a wise idea to have one on endurance rides. Now, I feel weird without it. Kind of like how I never used to wear a seat belt, but my husband always reminded me to when we met, so now I put it on automatically and feel weird if I don't.
But back to helmets...
No, I didn't nearly slice my head open, and, no, my helmet didn't come away with a huge dent in it.
In fact, I probably wouldn't have been injured enough to go to a doctor.
However, as I took a quick, routine, bareback 15-minute ride at a walk on my horse the other day in a soft, sandy arena, he shied away from the troll in the driveway that I couldn't see. Not anything huge, but enough to unseat me and I slid off sideways. I landed pretty hard on the back of my butt and my back was next to hit. However, my head never did - my helmet did. Sure, it was decently soft like sand can be and my head wasn't even the first thing to hit, but my helmet kept my neck from snapping backward and giving me whiplash. Therefore, my only injury was a sore hind end and lower back.
It probably wouldn't have been a terrible injury had I not worn it, but I'm grateful just that I spared myself a sore neck in addition to not being able to sit in certain positions. I love my helmet. Thank you for keeping my neck feeling good and my hair free from sand.
I like fashion, but put safety first and always ride with one. Haven't hit my head yet, but my sister was in a major car accident years ago with a very serious head injury, was in a coma & I watched her recover. Definitely makes you think...
wearing a helmet would be the safest thing.it may not look the best but could get realy hurt with out one it could even save your life
