Just picked up a Winchester 97 12 ga Well not mounted shooting but still old timmer. I was on the look out for a shot gun for SASS and just found a Winchester 97 12ga today. Matching numbers and all. Need to so some resurch on the numbers to see what year it was made but I think I am going to have some fun this coming summer. |
Congrats on the new purchase. FYI - you can do mounted shooting with a 12ga. There are inserts which go into the barrel and allow the use of the standard mounted shooting .45 blanks. The "rundown" has two targets. It used to be a grouping of 3 balloons and then 2 balloons. I preferred this as it made it much more challenging. The "new" way is simply two targets, one balloon each. Have fun. |
sweat nice find, I think I would have to clean it up and store it, get a 1887 clone for playing. |
Joe that is what I am thinking about doing. Called my gun smith the other day and he will check it out and clean it for $40. I have my eye on anouther 97 that does not have matched numbers and someone has already cut off the barrel. Will just have to see what it goes for. I do not want a clone as the only company that makes one is from China. Just not sure I would trust it. I also know where there are anouther 2 97s here close to me. |
