Handmade Collars - HELP!

Hello everyone. My sister and I are beginning to make handmade pet collars. They come in 3 sizes, for small, medium and large dogs. We have many different patterns available such as stars, polka dots, etc. They are constructed with high quality nylon and hardware and are built to last. We also have bells for car collars, and eventually hope to begin a program where you can donate $2 with your purchase to the humane society and we will send a cute collar charm.

My question is, would you be interested in purchasing something like that and why do you think is a good price for them?

We would need pictures to get a better idea of what you make.

Here are a couple pictures of one of the collars we made for my sister's German Shepherd.. I apologize in advance for the crappy cell phone pictures.

We were thinking about setting the price at $5 (plus shipping) per collar, no matter the size or style.

Those look nice. Personally, I like solid colors, so that is what I would go for. I would need some better pictures to decide if I would buy them. The price is VERY appealing.

As for marketing them, first and foremost, get better pictures. The collars alone should be on a blank, or as neutral as possible background. When modeled on dogs, go for painfully adorable short haired models, if you can find a willing participant. Short hair makes it easier to see the collar without the distraction of your hand in the way.

Once you get a good model base, with sizes and color samples, you need to get your product out there. Hit the vet offices, mom and pop pet shops, grooming salons, specialty treat stores, and of course the local shelters.

This is a good idea and a good product.

When you get a little money saved up, you might want to consider investing in a small engraving machine and offer tags with the collars too.

I agree with everything you're saying, and most of it is things we've thought of. These pictures were just quick ones we took to show our friends. I am just trying to take a feel of how interested people would actually be in them and get the word out there a little, but I will update with more pictures/styles when we get them. (:
Thanks for your input.. It was VERY helpful!

Collars are something EVERY new owner either Buys, or considers buying at one point with their pet. I would say that 99% of dog owners get a collar for their dog at some point. So YES this is a very good product. Customizable is great. The price is very competitive with similar products which is great. They are hand made and locally made, which again is great. I would have to have one to inspect to tell if the quality of the product is great as well, but they look nice.
