I own a brown Quarter Horse. I've owned her for 5 months now and if I had a dollar for every time someone called her a bay, I believe I'd be rich by now. She looks nothing like the horse I brought home back in July.

I have a ton of pictures and decided to share with everyone the seasonal changes that a brown horse goes through. She is a prime example of the color and thought it would be cool for others to see the changes she goes through for education purposes.

Picture Order:
1: 7/31/12
2: 7/31/12
3: 8/08/12
4: 8/08/12
5: 9/15/12
6: 9/26/12
7: 10/10/12
8: 10/24/12
9: 10/24/12
10: 10/24/12

Top 2 are from October.

Bottom 2 are from December...at her darkest. :D

Rumor is such a beautiful mare! I love her kind eye and sweet expression. You are lucky to have her as your baby! And yes, she is most definantly a brown mare, if not a seal brown. :)

Thank you! She is honestly one of the sweetest horses I've ever had the privilege to know, let alone own. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body and has an in-your-pocket type of personality. She'll follow you into a blazing fire-pit and then ask "What's next mom?" I think I have 2 of the best mannered mare's. Between Rumor and Chilly...I'm blessed. Especially after all this girl has had to overcome the past few months.

She got so sun-bleached last summer...Yuck! So I'm experimenting this coming spring to see if I can keep her dark. I own 2 sorrels and 1 red dun already, I don't want anymore red horses! LoL. I can't feed BOSS to her since it it has inflammatory properties and I don't need that affecting her injured hock. So I'll be ordering SmartPak's "Smart, Dark and Handsome" and see how well that works for her.

She really has come a LONNNGGG way, poor girl :(. I hope you get to ride her again soon. That would be the icing on the cake!

She is so sweet looking! I do recall reading about her injury and that is too bad, but she looks like she has come a long way.

I noticed a lot of threads lately asking for others to share their buckskins, diluted, etc. We should start one for browns. I think it would be neat to see what kind of variations you could see from horse to horse. My mare is also brown, but I don't want to hijack your thread and start posting pictures of her all over the place or start a new thread and have you think I'm trying to detract from this one! I'm all about keeping the peace.
