My First Attempt at Gourd Art! (pics)
My Mom and I's new crafting addiction is gourd art. Here is
the finished product of the gourd I created:
I chose to go with a native style for my gourd, featuring a
native/tribal seaturtle as the main design surrounded by
a prettty orange color (watercolor) and outlined by green
glitter embroidery thread to really make the image POP!
The entire gourd is also painted with metallic blue (the whole
gourd was done in acrylics except the orange surrounding
the turtle) acrylic paint.
The picture above is a detail picture. As you can see, I chose
to use leather strings and wooden beads to decorate my gourd.
The diamond patches are another native design, it along with
the leather and beads go completely around the gourd.
NOTE: Notice my lovely plants and bird house I made
in the background, lol!
So, that's it, I hope everyone likes it! My mom and I are going
to get alot of crafts together and create a website which we
sell them and everyone can view them and inspire ideas for
their own crafts, I hope everyone will want to view it! :D
ooo! i love it!
the metallic blue to go especially with the sea turtle representing
the ocean. :D
To make Your own gourd art...
Gourd (any size, shape, etc.)
Paint (a variety of different colors)
Paint brushes (from large to small detail brushes)
Knife (for cutting open the top of the gourd to make it bowl like)
Hot Glue Gun
Leather string (optional)
Other decorating Accessories
I hope I'm not forgetting anything...If anyone would like the
steps to creating one, I can write them down as well. :)
Thats awesome, and a wonderful idea. We have TONS of gourds here. But, what makes the gourd not rot and smell?
properly dried out, my mom read online if you buy a fresh gourd
, it needs to hangs up somewhere for at least 6 months (or over)
to completely dry out. I bought mine in a store where it was
already dry and ready to use, after decorating it I also spray it
with gloss to help the preservation. :D
Gee, no more replies? :(
Oh, it's beautiful! I loooooooove it.
Hmm...now with Moxie's wreathes and your gourds...ohh and Darylann's Tory Gem...and Allie's new boy... I'm just going to have to go on a shopping spree! ;)
