Breast Collar Question

Hello everyone! I had bought a used synthetic saddle with a round skirt (because my mare has such a short back, she needs a rounded skirt) a while ago and it doesn't have the little D-rings for the breast collar. Can I attach the bc straps to the big rings the holds the cinch?

Yes you can. If the breast collar hangs too low, then you can get a wither strap to hold it up off the shoulder

Awesome! Thanks!

Yes, you can, but that makes fitting the breast collar awfully hard. Some horses are built in a way that you can never get the BC to hang where it's supposed to if it's hooked to the cinch D rings.

Have you looked into more of a pulling type breast collar that attaches to the swells of your saddle? Since your using a synthetic saddle and just riding trails, you wouldn't need a real heavy-duty one. IME, they are a lot easier to fit correctly and fit a wider size range of horses than any other style.

I second the pulling-type breast collar.I have a roper that doesnt have any d-rings up higher, so I put my breastcollar straps on my cinch rings and have a "wither-strap" (aka piece of nylon lol) that brings it up to sit exactly like the pulling-collar. Only thing different is the weight on the horses withers/lower neck and the straps going from there to my cinch rings.

Ill br getting a pulling collar next breastcollar I buy though, coz it's a pain, lol.

Hmm... the pulling collar might be a good idea. I have a terrible time getting anything to fit my little Morgan mare anyway. lol I had made a wither strap a long time ago out of an old leather strap and some spare clips.

My makeshift wither strap is 3 pieces of $1.98 nylon straps about a half inch thick all strapped together (belt buckle type strapped).

Haha! That's cheaper than the real ones!

I know! Lol
I plan to get a black leather one at some point though. I was told about a place about an hour and a half away that will put text and crystals on as well.
The lady who told me plans to go back and get the one already made that says, "Look up, b!tch!" Lol. She tends to look down a lot :p
