Interesting Lyrics

Last night while at work (hmmm it must have been at 11:30 at night) I got hooked on this song by Billy Joel "We didn't start the fire". An old song but a great one!
Now on my way to work this morning (4:45 am!) I realised how messed up the lyrics were. Thought it would be interesting to bring that up because I doubt anyone who knows the song probably ever really noticed either. Not sure that they would actually qualify as lyrics really. Was just amused. Good song to download by the way.

I love Miami 2017 by Billy Joel xD I always belt it out. I've seen the lights go out on Broadway, I saw the Empire State laid low ...

Some of the songs I listen to, I have to be careful not to hum under my breath when others can hear xD Some are just nonsensical ("Hex zero rouge, he'll hibernate no more, altars run dry, prefect dictate final words"), some sound a bit dodgy ("Kiss me gently, screw me rent me," and, "I'm too easy, touch me tease me, blow me into infinity" in one song xD) and then of course there's Avenue Q. My house does tend to burst into spontaneous renditions of If You Were Gay and It Sucks To Be Me, however xD

There's this song called Strange by the Feeling. As with most of their music it has no specific meaning, but this one is a sort of outsider anthem. It's very gentle and beautiful - suits Dan Gillespie Sells' voice perfectly - and I feel it fits some parts of my life really, really well. It took me ages to realise that the most obvious interpretation would be for gay people xD But then just about every song on Twelve Stops and Home can be interpreted that way; it's just part of the type of songs they sing!

Strange:

Don't you dig this life
They call the meek
You whose feet are on the ground
And if you get too high
What goes around
Comes around
And brings you down

Cause people gonna see you
How they wanna see you
People gonna rate you
People gonna hate you
People gonna shove you
People gonna love you
People gonna do whatever
Makes them feel they own you better

Cause everyone knows we're strange
So why do you feel ashamed, baby?
Everyone knows we're different
So why do you feel ashamed
We love you all the same

That's right
Cause if you feel it, and if you mean it
Don't apologise
And you will be just fine
All they ever need is what you give 'em
They only put you down if you give 'em permission

People gonna see you
How they wanna see you
People gonna rate you
People gonna hate you
People gonna shove you
People gonna love you
People gonna do whatever
Makes them feel they own you better

Cause everyone knows we're strange
So why do you feel ashamed, baby?
Everyone knows we're different
So why do you feel ashamed
We love you all the same

You're undernourished
And unencouraged
And underrated
And unappreciated
The world is turning in a different direction to us
Just look how far you've come considering all of the pushing and spitting and stuff

Yeah everyone knows we're strange, etc.
