- - Mane Rub

How do you keep your horse from rubbing off their mane in the winter? My barrel horse has rubbed a section in the middle of his mane down to his skin. We have one cow feeder in our field and one horse feeder. None of our other horses have rubbed manes however. He is also tall enough to put his head over the bars on the cow feeder. I'm not exactly sure how he did it! I have a water proof blanket on him 24/7 while he is at pasture. Should I put a hood on him too? Or neck guard? I'm not really sure what to do! I am going to have to roach his mane so that it all ends up the same length but I'd like it to start growing now! Also any products to help his mane grow? Thanks!:D

MTG will help it grow. Maybe he had dandruff? And it itched. My colt has dandruff and rubs it on a pole but he doesn't rub his hair off.

My horse is the same way. We had a cattle feeder type. It had grown back to a length where I could cut and band for a show, then BAM in 2 days she rubbed it all off. I would suggest putting a hood on your horse. We ended up just not putting a bail feeder in, because we only have one. Good luck
