Keeping pigs warm
Pork Chops doesn't seem to like it when I shove hay in his box. Should I try pine-shavings or a blankie or something? He's in one of those plastic dog boxes....
For my momma pig we use wood shavings and straw. So i would try shavings and see how that is. Is there anywhere you could put out a heat lamp were he couldnt reach it or melt his box?:-)
A pet pig???? Pictures please!
I'll put pix up tomorrow! I shoved grass hay in there and he seems ok. I have a Blake for him but one of the dogs seems to have claimed it.
Huge pile of loose straw - up to the roof of the house if you can. He'll burrow into it to get warm if he wants and all you'll see will be his nose sticking out :D. If he doesn't want it he'll have it shoved out of the way in no time. Pigs are clever, strong and resourceful - as I'm sure you know!
What breed is he?
Ps no blanket! If he eats it (when he eats it) there's a chance of choking.
Straw NOT hay. Hay holds moisture and will make him cold.

I don't have many pix on this computer. I'll have to get more!
The oven will keep him nice and warm.
AWEE! Too cute... looks just like my friends old pot-belly.... she used a blanket on him to keep him warm, I believe it was a mini pony or foal blanket, fit perfect on him! Funny, my horse lived with the pig and absolutely LOVED him, watched out for him!
