Horse boarding in the middle of nowhere
This is the only boarding facility in Wendover, on the Utah/Nevada border (two hours west of Salt Lake City, UT..two hours from anywhere actually). I had to sell my horse because of the conditions this place provides. The city owns it, but doesn't do anything but collect our money. If a horse is sick, they don't take any measures to isolate it. If horses are starving, they don't care as long as the rent is payed. Other boarders are thieves, and sadists.
Before getting sold to a safer home 200 miles away, my OTTB was beaten with rocks, splashed with water in freezing weather, was released from his pen at night regularly, and had food stolen right from out of his dish. Kids would even hop on his back, which later required him to get chiropractic work. I had $1500 worth of tack stolen from me.
There is only one vet who is willing to come down, and only on the two scheduled days a year. Believe me, I tried. There is only one farrier, who is competent, but takes advantage of the fact that everyone relies on him.
If you plan on moving to this town (I will have to question your sanity on that, because the town isn't much better than the boarding facilities), do not bring your horse if you care about his health and safety.
