Suprise benefit of not riding...
I have been off my horse for a long 10 weeks due to ankle surgery. Once I was out of a cast and into a walking boot , I was able to get to the barn. I have spent the last several weeks doing ground work, playing games and teaching him to work with vienna reins.
You know what, we have had a blast, no pressure , no agenda......
and we both learned a lot. It really enhanced our relationship, so hoping it will carry over to riding. What a nice surprise, when you expect something to be so bad and its turns out to be so good :-)
That's great to hear! Isn't it amazing what can get done when there are no deadlines?
Yep. Had the same thing happen when I bought my gelding. He was a two-year-old basically unhandled stud colt. We did A LOT of groundwork. Then I fractured my ankle just as he was getting broke, so we did even MORE groundwork. His trust in me is amazing now.
