Selling my Arabian gelding and have no idea what he's worth...Advice? Tips? USA-AZ
I'm in nursing school and do not have the time that my horse deserves. He is an 8 year old registered Arabian, grandson of Khemosabi. Four white socks, little star, and dark bay. He's around 14.3 and has a calm temper. At times he can get spirited and hot (but that's the arab in him lol). He's been sitting for about 8 months on 2 acres of plush green grass so he needs a tune up. He learns quick, has a great work ethic and has three months professional training under him. He remembers everything from training. :) He's ready for a discipline and i'm sure (if he's not too old) he'd bring home ribbons. He manners well, loads, stands for farrier, picks up his feet, is UTD on everything. I don't know where to start on selling him...
If you can't tell..I don't know the Arabian horse world at all and need help.:/
So what do you think he's worth?
When he's in training and being worked:

I'll take any help you can offer me!
no help but hes a pretty boy
He's a pretty boy, but you've got a lot of things working against you. First, the overall horse market is in the toilet, but especially the Arabian market. It's been depressed for a good many years.
Second, he's been sitting awhile and you haven't finished his training. At 8 y/o, being greenbroke is a liability, not an asset.
Third, he doesn't sound like he'd be a good horse for an inexperienced rider. That's fine, but you're definitely going to lose a lot of an already diminished market.
So basically, for a greenbroke 8 y/o Arabian who's been out of work almost a full year, between $500-$1,000 but probably closer to the $800 range.
I do like Khemo breeding and he's a pretty boy, but what's the rest of his pedigree look like? There are some Arab bloodlines I wouldn't touch.
Worthless .. worthless I tell you.... you can send him to me.....
He is a nice looking boy. If you have a facebook try listing him on Arabians for sale- Free advertising and Endurance Riders facebook page. He is a good age a good height. I would not go over a $2000. For the endurance page. Not that he is not worth more, it's just pockets are kinda tight right now. Good luck on selling him!
Those were some things I was worried about.
His sire is Kemos Tonto Starr and his Dam is AR Sereneeta < (sire)Serineet and (dam)MC Seras Honey.
Is there anything I can do that won't take too much money to add more value to him?
I know you don't have time to ride him yourself, but honestly the only thing that will add value right now is hours in the saddle. If he knows his basics, he really is just going to need fine tuned and 'brushed up' to make sure he remembers everything and is willing to do them as soon as he's asked. Have you considered free leasing or very cheaply leasing him, perhaps to a more experienced rider? Its a limited market but you might be able to find someone who needs a horse but can't afford to buy one right now, and who is experienced enough to help develope him. As a well broke horse (maybe 3 or 4 months of consistent riding from now) you can probably advertise him as a intermediate-advanced broke 8 year old, ready to finish in any discipline. He'll also be back in riding shape which will help a lot.
In my area, right now he'd probably bring $800-1,000 since he has fairly nice breeding and is a looker (people around her are suckers for bay arabs for the show ring) but that doesnt mean he'd bring in somewhere else. They're going a dime a dozen right now and if he were a QH here, same training, he probably wouldn't even bring $400 >.> with some more training though, you might be able to get closer to $1,200-$1,500.
Oh great, horse of my dreams, up for sale at the wrong time. If this was the right time, I would give you $2000 and think I got a deal. Seriously, this is the exact horse I am wanting when I retire to ARIZONA!!!!
Aww, is he really the horse of your dreams? :) He's been such a doll to have but I really think he deserves to have someone who can show him or at least ride him regularly and enjoy all he has to offer. When will be the right time? Lol. :P It doesn't sound like i'll be able to sell him anytime soon. But I do appreciate all the tips and advice i've been getting. The more the better. :)
