What do you do before shows?
Hey guys :)
So, i have a show tomorrow and i was just wondering what all of you do to focus before a show?
I think it would be interesting to see how other people handle nerves and stuff

I'm lucky in that I never have trouble focusing while riding :) But I do get a bit nervous at shows, and that's something I'm working on because I can see it affecting my horse's performance a bit. But once I'm out there, although I may be nervous, I try my best to relax, and if I do happen to notice people standing on the outside watching, I can still regain my focus very quickly. To help me relax, I take deep breaths, especially at transitions. Someone suggested this to me before me and my horse's 3rd show together last summer and it made a big difference! Just something that simple can really affect your performance.
So for me, focusing is not an issue, but I would like more tips as to staying calm and relaxed. :)

Haha yes, i don have problems focussing its all about composing myself. I listen to music for like 3 hours ahead of time. Once i start to compete I have no nerves, its only beofre hand

Best advise I can give you is to get to bed early before a show and eat a healthly breakfast in the morning. Get to the show grounds early and do a good warm up. You can't really "fix" anything at a show, you are there to show you & your horse's ability up to that point so focus on that.

Focus? I may be up and moving around but the brain is definitely not engaged. Just sign up for classes that start after 11am. If the shows would start then and run into the evening I'd be in great shape. Couldn't convince my high school to change it's hours. We were city kids, not farm kids and that is what the school day was based on - the twice daily chores with milking cows.

I lead my horse around in-hand. We sniff everything and I walk-out my nerves. Then I mount up and ride like my instructors screaming at me (even tho shes usually on the other side of the grounds, on her OWN horses)

My first show of the year (I havent shown in years) is just a few weeks away! Taking baby O to his very first show. It's just a schooling show but for help on my nerves ill be having a reader for both tests and deep breathing for memorizing the my jump tests ;)
