Random thought
So I was Dranking a powerade today and I just had a random thought.
Could you give your horse Gatorade/powerade?
Would it be any good for them?

A lot of people give their horses watered down Gatorade/Powerade. It has electrolytes, and horses generally like the flavor.

Don't know why not, I have in the past. They are all still alive:wink:

That's what I was thinking.
Thanks for the response

I've known people to give their horses wine, pop and beer, so powerade shouldn't hurt.

You can also buy electrolytes packaged for livestock. I know a few people who do this but havent myself but would guess it's cheaper than letting them drink your gatorade.

Dice LOVES Powerade and he knows when it's warm out mom always has one with her and he gets the last 1/4 -1/2 of it after our ride. Spoiled horse =P

A friend had to give her mare electrolytes last night since she wasn't drinking much water. Since she loves gatorade, she mixed a bottle of gatorade with electrolytes and she drank that enjoyably and then went back to drinking her water!

When I showed 4-H and FFA market steers I gave them a bottle of GatorAde mixed in their water bucket to encourage drinking. Nothing like showing ganted-up beef cattle...haha.
Short term or a once in awhile shouldn't be an issue, I wouldn't think.

In the hot and humid summers of east TX or a really hard workout I would give an electrolyte supplement to my horses. I used the same stuff I seen the race horse people buy(Electro-Dex?).

Some people do. Personally, I prefer using electrolytes made for equine consumption. I find that I get better results, and just feel more comfortable giving them to my horses in general.
