would this work for a summer stable sheet???
if anyone has or knows about this turnout sheet could you tell me if it would work for a summer stable sheet?? it doesnt look to heavy n it says its light weight, i was just wondering if it would be to heavy to use as a stable sheet, my gelding would most likely be wearing it out to pasture n in the stall. would it be to warm for summer???
IMO, anything more than mesh is too much in the summer for most places.
Why would he need to be covered in the summer?
That would be way too hot. That material does not breathe.

No no no. If you're going to cover them up in the summer buy a sheet made specifically FOR summer weather.
No, my mare is black, and for her sake I am getting her a white fly sheet, to keep her cooler, something like this would work:
Kool Coat Light UV Fly Sheet - Statelinetack.com
I do have something like that for a winter coat though, it is a pink heavy weight tough 1 blanket. I only use it when it gets below -30 C though. The fly sheet is good for flies, keeping cool, and prevents sun fading.
Do not put any of those rotten synthetic rugs on in summer. They are only good for when it is really cold and wet, as they do not breathe.
I rug through summer, but to prevent bleaching of the coat and insect bites. Just a very light, UV resistent fly mesh or flag rug is all that is needed. And don't get sucked in by all the fancy colours available, you want a white summer rug, not a pink or blue one. White reflects heat and will keep your horse cooler, particularly if it is a dark coloured horse.
I wouldn't put that on during the summer. Your horse will sweat. Why not us a fly sheet instead?
Get a Kool Coat!!
Seriously, they are the best things ever. They actually do keep your horse cool, and they aren't as flimsy as a typical fly sheet. My horse is hard on his blankets and sheets, but it took him 2 summers with having it on in the pasture 24/7 before it got destroyed.
Kool Coat's are ok on the not too hot days. But when we're talking 35*C + and sunny, they get very hot as they are predominantly polyester - plastic.
Your best bet is a rug that has a very high percentage of cotton, try to avoid the cheap and nasty 'plastic' rugs. The more synthetic content in a rug, the less they breathe and the hotter they get.
