Blue eye questions

Okay, so as some of you know, I just got a new filly and she's got one blue eye. I've never owned a blue eyed horse before. Now, I've been told that I'll regret having a blue eyed horse because that eye will water and run all the time and she'll be really light sensitive in it.

I suppose I could understand that if it was a blue eye in the middle of a white face, but with her eye being surrounded by brown, I don't see how being blue could make much difference.

But, I figured I would just defer to the experts on here....or pretty much anyone who's owned a blue eyed horse.

Did you have any issues with them or are these things I'm hearing nothing more than old wive's tales?

Oh, and just for giggles....

I haven't owned one, but I agisted my horse with one. A nasty old paint mare (got that thing was a witch!!!) with one blue eye - owner never had any issues with it! Though that mare would probably eat other horses and people to survive if she had to, the eye just added to the effect!

One of mine has blue eyes - no problems todate (touch wood); love that little filly.

Just old wives tales. I had a horse with 1 blue eye and another blue and a half eye. Never had a problem.

It sounds like the same thing with white hooves. He also had white hooves, never had a issue with that too. :-P

From my own personal experience, my bi-eyed bald face WITHOUT black eye liner will get watery eyed and crusty eyes ewww. My Medicine Hat bi-eyed WITH black eyeliner no problems. My black and white tobiano with one full blue and one completely half blue half brown (on black not white) waters in the light, but not like my bald faced mare. All mine have been a little flinchy on the blue eyed side though.

Any problems that may arise are not related to the eye color itself but the surrounding skin:D.Those with dark pigmentation don't have problems any more than your brown eyed horse. Many blue eyed horses have bald faces/big blaze & the skin around is pink those eyes have risk of being more light sensitive ,sunburning around & goopy eyes.
statements like Blue eyed horses aren't prone to blindness, crazy etc are wives tales & those problem are no more risk than in your general horse:D.
I have had a few blue eyed horses & never had problem with any.I like the look, especially those with the nice eyeliner markings....:D
