xrays to share

Finally got xrays because I have a farrier and 2 other people telling me that my horse needs to be medial high. Horse is due for a trim, so it does not show the medial highs from 6 weeks ago (hmmm, what does that tell you). She has always had this posture. I want to go by live sole. But anyhoo I want to share.

Since we're 6 weeks from the medial high trim, it's worn away. So the vet lays on the ground and shows me that she is jamming on the outsides, and her coronary bands are pushed up on the outsides. But I think the angles are good, the vet said that first.

Comments? If anyone can make the pictures show up, I'd be grateful.

Hmm, hope someone more experienced at reading radiographs chips in. Interested to hear what your vet said too. I'm no expert at all at reading rads & the dorso-palmar views I've seen have been taken from the back of hooves that I have seen. Not sure if it's always done that way though. Be interesting to see pics of the hooves corresponding to the rads. Would have been good if the hairline was marked. & what's with the block/screws & writing covering the bottom of the foot?? Be interesting to see what the distal surface of P3 looks like from that angle.

So... I'm assuming the lateral sides are actually the steeper(in LF at least), the fetlocks varus? Considering angle of fetlocks, the 'spacings' between joints, etc, I'd think the right looks pretty reasonable as it is, but the left may be slightly too high medially.

Of the latero-medial views, looks pretty good. Perhaps the RF is just a spot long in the toe.

These are interesting. Yes, on first look, it does appear the hoof is inbalanced side to side. However, if you look closely at where the bones meet each other, the gaps (for lack of a better word) between the bone are even. If the hoof was truly imbalanced, you would see more on one side than the other. The boney column lines up very well despite the leg being wonky.

The only thing I see, is the heel is a smidge high on that last pic. See how the space at the bottom of joint between P2 and the long pastern bone goes from wider to narrower as you go front to back? If you brought the heel down a smidge, it would open that space in back up. Overall I think they look very good. Then again, I'm not a vet and don't play one on tv.

Hmmm. Yes I can post the last pics I took a few months ago prior to this farrier. I SEE!!!! The R/F lateral, the space between the p2 and pastern bone. Yes, that hoof grows more upright, the left grows more long in the toe. I wonder if that's why. But I'll make sure it comes down a bit.

I can't believe the wonky legs she has. She's 12 and can't be fixed.

Yea the writing over the hoof and the screws are in the platform she stood on, but it looks like the lip for the xray to stand is messing up the sight as well.

The vet said she looks good. The bones are all clean. He said that the toes could come back. And the medials (inner) hoof sides could be lowered a smidge. 6 weeks ago the medials were much higher to "straighten" her legs, LOL. Farrier will be doing it my way this time. Vet laid down on the ground to see the M-L balance and showed me how the R/F lateral (outside) was jamming up into the coronary band from the medial being too high.

In 6 weeks, she has worn herself much more to her liking, , which is NOT medial high.

So Puck, I guess imbalance shows up in the joint spaces? That would be a great thing to know.

Let me find some pics.
