is there a good brand for leather split reins?
I like really soft reins and have yet to find a good pair for myself, couple I have were softer then the others at the tack store, and I'd buy them in hopes with enough use they'll soften up more, but I'm not having any luck.
Do people soak them?

Harness leather will soften up with use. If you buy the cheap shiny reins, they won't ever soften up. Any kind of harness leather rein and then you can soak it in neatsfoot oil or olive oil to get them to soften up..

I buy these.

The instant I get them home, I oil them with pure neatsfoot oil and work them until they are supple as butter. They are just about the most affordable good quality harness leather reins I've ever found.

Of course, the Herman Oak harness leather reins are some of the best quality you can find in mass production, but they are so expensive.

General rule though, stay away from latigo leather reins. They don't last as long, they don't hold their shape, and they stretch/break easily.

Great, thank you I'll give them a try!
