Riding in a hackamore?

Hello! My horse right now is being ridden in a Happy Mouth but chew through them to quick and I dont really like having to warm up metal in the winter. I was thinking of putting him in a hackamore. He direct reins, neck rein, and moves off leg movements. I ride 5 times a week and do barrels. I dont show often so most of my riding is just for fun. I would love to get my horse another Happy Mouth but they are to darn expensive to replace every few months. what is the softest hack I can buy for him? I like Little S hackamore. How harsh are these? I Thanks! :)

It really depends on what your horse works well in and what he prefers.

I rode my arab in an "indian hackamore" which is very mild, and he did well in it.

For my QH, I used a rubber and buckskin covered bike chain hack, which its harsh in the wrong hands, but I barely touch the reins with him so it was mild, too.

Thanks! I was thinking of buying him this, but the noseband just concerns me since he has very sensitive skin.

Would it be best to wrap it in vet wrap? I have seen alot of riders around here do that and was wondering if that is what it was for! Thanks!

You can get Little S Hackamores with a flat nose band. They are a little harder to find, but the endurance people use them and I think Reinsman makes a version with a flat leather nose band as well. I don't know why the rope ones seem more common, I would not want to use that on my horse either.

You can get a fuzzy fleece nose band cover. And it will be cute too!!!

Second one even says its for the S hack.

I have a leather nosed Little S hack. Aires loves it. It's Reinsman brand and cost me about $30.

I like using a rope halter or lariat noseband bosal.
