Riding in deep mud•rodeo!
It's been drying out a little here in Oregon. We always have a small false spring near the end of February. It was 66' on Friday! Anyway, I have been consistently riding in the arena and tuning everyone up very nicely.

We finally decided it was dry enough to venture off the driveways and arena for a trail ride. It was gorgeous! But the mud was still rather deep. We must ride across the creek and up the hill in deep mud to get to the old railroad bed that is so nice to travel on. My mare, who has been fantastic in the arena, was a total crank every time she had to walk through the mud. She will go where i tell her to, but she definitely expresses her opinion about it. I feel bad because she is sinking 5 inches. She was crow hopping, swishing her tail back and forth, and finally, bucking!

I was riding with a bareback pad like I always do unless we are doing a day trip. I was very pleased that I stayed on and didn't grip with my legs (which is probably why I didn't fall off!).

Anyone else have trouble riding in the mud? What can you do?

Wait for it to dry up lol

Riding in deep mud puts a lot of stress on the tendons. Just be careful if you're going out. Your horse can bow something.
