went from 80 degrees to snowing
My mare was out all night, it has been really hot and i wasnt really concerned about her she has a run in stall she can go in but i havent been locking her up. this morning when i woke up it was snowing/ raining and was off and on all night and when i went to check my horse she was soaked, but also running around playing and very hyper. Im worried because she doesnt have a winter coat anymore and idk if she will be affected by the sudden change of weather? its supposed to rain off and on today and clear up tomarrow, she doesnt seem to want to get out of the rain and seems more content with running around. Should i lock her in her stall or leave her out?
How cold is it? If it's above 60, I'll leave mine out in the rain.
I'd leave her out. She's already wet, so locking her in her stall will just mean she can't move around to stay warm. Make sure she has some extra hay/access to grazing and let her run around. It won't hurt her to stay outside.
Ditto leaving her out BUT I would have a tube of Banamine paste on hand, just in case. There's three doses to a tube.
80 degrees to snow in 24 hours is a wilder weather swing than I've experienced and I've had some doozies:-(
I have four horses, two with metabolic issues & ulcers. There's ten doses of Banamine in the refrigerator; I figure if I have them on hand, I won't need them:D
