Non- horse person peeves.
Posting a lot today trying to get my mind off of my dog :( Sorry for spamming everyone with posts. So, what are your pet peeves for non horsey people/bad riders? (pretty much due to not understanding)...Ok, I'll admit saying bad riders sounds brutal, but honestly! You need to steer your horse and stop ramming into mine at a full blown canter! You do realize you could cause a fight...right?
Yes, I ride horses. No, that does not mean I'm a "bronc buster" (though sometimes my mare makes me feel like I am :P)
I don't understand why people (including me) get made fun of for liking horses. You like dogs, shall I start making fun of you for it?
Your turn! :P
I hate it when people call a fully grown obvious horse a pony. It bugs me so much! haha.
When I see someone who has a horse that wont listen (and they clearly have a whip), I have to do everything in my power not to yell "SMACK THAT DARN HORSE! MAKE HIM MIND YOU!" or if someone gets thrown and refuses to get back on, I'm almost tempted to jump on that persons horse. Congrats on teaching your horse bad manners! This is why I don't let people ride my mare...
I call my 15.3hh mare pony. It's term of endearment. Like calling a significant other baby. Plus she kind of reminds me of an over grown shetland in the winter because she gets so hairy...
Ignorance doesn't bug me too much any more. A new rider posting with her hands, or pulling on the reins while trying to do an upwards transition isn't something I like to see, but I know they're learning. It's willful or spiteful ignorance that hurts the horse that gets on my nerves. Tying a horse by the reins because you're lazy. Laughing when you horse bucks because your saddle doesn't fit and you're too cheap to get a properly fitted one. Using spurs for forward because you've dulled it to the aid.
Also when people who ride in a leverage bit call it a snaffle because it has a joint in the middle. It has shanks and has a leverage action, it's a curb. Period.
Yes!! The one time I let my friend ride her....aaand she was ruined when I got back on... -_- no more pony rides for you! Lol
I don't like people that think they can ride your horse, or if they can't ride your horse they criticize your horse.
Stupid all over.
Yes!!! Thank you!
LOL, yes non-horse folk can be frustrating for sure! Sorry this might be a bit long. Mom gives horse riding lessons for beginners and a lady(Grandmother) brought her granddaughter IDK maybe 5-6ish y/o for riding lesson. I went down to the barn about middle of their lesson to spend time with the girls. Of course she liked one of my girls cause she had a "pretty". The grandma strikes up a chat about Gypsy. Asking questions: her age, what she eats, bla, bla. At the time I didn't know she told her granddaughter she will buy her any horse she wanted. She went on to ask if she's for sale? I said "no, no not for sale, sorry" She said "I'm serious! How much? would a couple hundred, umm $500 buy her?" "I laughed and said no she's not for sale at that price nor any price for that matter." She jumped in with. "everything has a price, what will it take?" I don't care if you offer a million bucks in cash, she's still NOT... for sale, at any price, or anytime!" Sorry I'm never selling her" Just the nerve of some people... seriously? Nope I can't be bought, money doesn't motivate me. I rather have my girls and I will have them till the pasture in the sky calls them. I have a HUGE heart for my girls, they have feelings too and I couldn't live with myself not knowing whats going on in their lives? are they ok? I'm just too attached to my girls. I bust my butt to give them a better life them myself! Again sorry for the long rant.
I hate it when people think, just because they can ride a lesson horse, they can ride any horse. Then, they become upset when the horse doesn't behave perfectly, "Spot always does this when I do that. Patches always does this on cue."
People who state their opinion as a fact or rule. (That also applies to non horsey people).
I have a problem with people with pride who won't listen to even their instructor, although they are clearly doing something wrong with their horse.
People who think it's okay to pet any horse at any time. It's like walking up to a dog on the street - wouldn't you ask before you petted him? It's too easy to lose fingers (or limbs) all for a lack of courtesy.
And I have to have a measure of tolerance for non-horsey people (although I don't understand WHY they are non-horsey :). The only thing that really bothers me is when someone comes to the barn with no horse experience and then won't listen when I give specific instructions for their safety. "Don't walk behind him. Pet him on his neck." Oh, and when non-horsey people watch me ride and my horse farts. They find it hilarious for some reason -_-
I have one big one. People that think because you have horses you are wealthy. Um nope, last time I checked I'm broke because I have horses. Well, not really broke but I'd darn sure have a lot more in my savings account and could pay cash for a brand new car every year LOL!
