Does .5" on a seat REALLY matter?
I found a saddle that I've been looking for on ebay. The only problem is that it has a 17.5" seat. I need a 17" seat. Will the .5" difference really make a difference?
I'm not going to be showing. I'm only going to be doing pleasure riding, trail riding and poping over whatever may be on the trail. Nothing else.

we're talking about 1/2 an inch right? I don't think it will be a huge issue.
Besides, Halloween, thanksgiving and christmas are all right around the corner...lol...Maybe you'll fit in the saddle by New Years!!! :P  :P

Wait...were you talking english or western? Cuz a 17.5" western will be waaaay to big for your little tushie.

I'm talking about english :)
That's so true that.5 really won't matter.. and I still am young, and I realized yesterday (after watching a video of me) that I got a big butt!

I don't think it matters. When I was looking for one in Dover half people there said I need 17, half - I need 17.5. I ended up with 17 (that was the only one and I didn't feel like waiting :) ).

I know that .5 an inch too small matters. As my current saddle is too small.
But i think it would be better in the long run to get a slightly bigger saddle.. for when my bum grows, or even if someone else rides in my saddle.
Thanks so much for the help!

1/2" BIGGER is usually just fine. Most people ride in saddles too small for them anyway . 1/2" smaller though can make quite a difference!
If the 17.5" is just the saddle you want and a good price, then go for it!!

Agreed, a little too big isn't going to be a problem. Chances are it'll fit anyway, I don't think those sizes are really dead on from one maker to the next anyway.

Agree. Depends on maker and model a lot. Some with 17.5 for one model can feel like 17 for other model. :) Appy, is it on ebay? Can you try (or try similar in tack store JUST to try)? But if the price is great and you are sure in model I'd go for it.

I haven't tried the saddle. I'll do that tomorrow, but the style of saddle is what I wanted. and I would be getting a good deal on it. Brand new the saddles go for $1,800something and the person is selling it for $650....
