Overbite in 3 y/o Stud
Hello Everyone - Hoping this will be a good place to discuss this with others. I own breeding horses and this particular stud just turned 3 years old. He had a tiny bit of an overbite as a Jr horse but literally it wasn't even half a tooth always thought he had a look to him that he would have this - low and behold I checked him out and he has tooth width overbite - this horse is stunning and boasts top bloodlines and conformation of the breed. How bad is this bite in your opinion and should I be gelding him and sending him off to a new home to be shown by youth?
Appreciate any opinions.

That's a fairly significant parrot mouth. My TB gelding is also parrot mouthed, but it's not as bad as your colt's. It's also a genetic trait and can be passed on to foals, so your best bet is to geld him and send him to training.
NEVER breed a parrot mouthed horse...he should be gelded BEFORE you sell him to make sure he isn't later bred. It's really a shame, but it's the responsible thing to do...
Not only that .. you need to look at WHERE HE GOT THAT MOUTH FROM.. if it's genetic, he likely received that lovely gift from his sire or dam...
Thank you for all opinions - luckily I do not own sire or dam and actually don't have any other horses on property of the same bloodline. But will inform the breeder .
Yes, parrot mouth in a breeding stud is a no-go. Germany is very particular in registering breeding studs for any registered breed, except for Thoroughbreds - if they can run, they can breed. Unless the have a parrot mouth - they don't get the necessary license to breed.
Sure is a pitty if everything else is right on your 3year old :-(
I agree, geld him, and also inform who ever buys him.
This may cause problems in the future.
Geld him. You don't want that passed down.
