Trouble With Milk pH Strips

So as many of you know I'm a farm manager at a warmblood breeding farm near San Antonio, and we have 6 of our own mares due this spring and 4 client mares foaling out at our facility.

In order to not go absolutely insane (because foal watch is split with only one other person in addition to a normal 8-10 hr day of work) I've been attempting to use the Aquachek pool strips to test milk pH and accurately predict foaling. I know the parameters that tell you if a mare is close or not but I haven't been able to predict the last two foalings in a row. I even tested a client mare's milk the morning that she foaled and it said it was still at a 7.8, despite being yellow and sticky and her having waxed for three days. My boss was skeptical of using them in the first place and now it looks like they don't work (even though I know they should!!!) Is there something I'm doing wrong in mixing the solution or something? Has anyone used these strips and knows a trick to them? We used the milk calcium test kits in college at CSU but these pool strips are all I got for now. 1cc milk with 6ccs of distilled water, dip for 15 seconds and compare. Is this not correct? Help would be appreciated!!
