Hair loss and seasonal changes
I've had my horse for two years, and finally decided I need to do something for her coat. She has very dry skin, and gets dandruff and over her face, legs, chest, and neck. She also gets bald spots on her face. I haven't quite figured out why yet, but it seems to get worse when the seasons change. It doesn't seem to bother her, and I talked to my boss and a few long-time boarders and they all said that Crimson's (my mare) has had skin problems for years.
By the way, I found Crimson at my barn. I've only been at the barn I'm at for two years. Crimmy's been here 13.
Any suggestions? Supplements? Grooming products?
If you want to take a shot in the dark, give her a vitamin/mineral supplement. They are very important to having good skin, easy to give, and not expensive.

Has the vet seen her since you've owned her?
Checked for worms?
Out of curiosity, what exactly does "found at my barn" mean? Did the horse belong to the BO? Had it been abandoned and the BO took her in, years ago for lack of payment?
Had she had any sort of vet care in the 13 years at this barn?
She was last looked at by the vet about a month ago and he said that she's fine, so we figure she probably just has very dry skin.
Crimmy had a real owner probably fifteen years ago. I've tried to find out what happened, but all I know is that her owner sold her to my boss, who's had her since... at least until I adopted her.
Is she outside getting plenty of sunshine?
