Ancient Vs. Modern Olympics
So, I thought it would be fun to post some of the topics I am covering in my school forums here. I am taking an Intro to Humanities class, that looks fairly interesting. I can post topics each week for us to discuss.

This week's topic:

Learn more about the Ancient Olympic Games by clicking on the link available below. After you have reviewed this site, discuss how the modern version of the Olympics differs from the Ancient Olympic Games. Which elements of the original do you wish were still included? Why? What do you like about the modern version of the games? Why?

Do ya mean the athletes will compete neeked again? Coooool.

Naughty, naughty Dashie. :D

besides competing naked, it was a male thing only.
(don't get excited Dashie). LOL

and I would say much more honest competition

todays oylimpics is just a big show , for entertainment purposes
mostly. I do not watch it. It has gotten away from celebrating the athletes to seeing how many medals a country can win.

That is exactly right Regal! I feel like the Olympics today is more like a pissing contest than anything else. Back in the day only free men who spoke greek were allowed to participate, so not just any job blow who was a great runner could c'mon in and race.

There were fewer games as well. If you look at the link that I provided, you'd see that there were only a hand full of games, and not a million and one sports to suit everyone's needs. In my opinion, the ancient Greeks focused on events that were primarily useful in ever day life, for the most part; things that were needed to get by and survive.
