Skull cap helmets? Time for a new helmet! :D I've been looking at skull caps. I like how they seem to cover the back of the head more, and I also find them to be a little stylish. For eventers, would you suggest a skull cap? And does anyone know other benefits of them? http://images.equestriancollections....$productimage$ |
I wear a Charles Owen J3, which is a slightly earlier model than the one you've shown. It's a replacement for two earlier hats of the same model, the first of which saved my head when I (complete with horse) fell on the road. Actually, I can't remember hitting my head, which tells me I probably did. The helmet shell didn't show any damage apart from a scuff, which I'm convinced one of the lightweight cycle-type helmets would have done, but I changed it anyway. I've always worn a rigid-shell helmet and found the J3 really comfortable, though I tend to wear a Champion ventilated (showjumping) hat on very hot days in the summer, which is not that often in these parts ;) |
I know someone who just this past weekend who had a fall while jumping and the visor snapped off her helmet and gave her a nasty mark on her face; she's planning to replace it with a skull cap helmet. She's an eventer, FWIW. I do see lots of skull caps with eventers, probably for that very reason! :-) |
