how to teach a horse to kneel?
Hi my horse is too young to ride so i want to train him some tricks. i would like to teach him to kneel. By that i mean kneeling on BOTH knees. could anyone give me directions on how to do that WITHOUT ropes and force? thank you!
Don't do that. It's hard on the joints and a baby has no business on his knees. Look in to in hand trail classes.
My boys' previous owner taught him 'tricks' and it's a pain in the rear. When I first got him, you'd pick up his foot to clean his hoof... and he'd bow, it was obviously tough on his knees, and I want to preserve his joints as long as possible, so it's not something I'm ever going to do with him.
There are 'tricks' you can teach a horse that's too young to ride. Teach them to move off of pressure, teach them verbal cues and (my favourite) teach them to position themselves neatly at the mounting block and stand quietly for a few minutes where it would be easy for you to get on if he were of riding age. I can lead Jackson to the mounting block, climb up (standing face to face) cluck and he will turn on the forehand until he's standing properly.
