Bone chip in hock! Panic!

Hi all,

So I'm not sure anyone saw my thread on Twiggy's swollen hock, because I phoned the vet straight after, so there was no more to be said. It was diagnosed as a bog spavin, and today she went in for X-rays, which showed a bone chip, that needs surgery.

Just waiting on a quote from the vet, and a date for her to go to the clinic.

But in full on panic mode! Has anyone had this before? Any advice?

It's pretty common in thoroughbreds.
My old TB had one on his fetlock, was about 250ish to have it removed. No big deal and very little down time, was about 4 weeks. Jumping, however was ruled out for him.
