New mare!

Hey everybody! I just adopted a 12 year old mare, going to pick her up this weekend! She was a neglect case and was seized by a rescue in my area a few days ago. She hasn't had much human contact, so she's gonna be my project :). Thoughts on what breed/color/conformation? I was thinking cremello, she has two blue eyes and pink skin, and she is a little cow hocked but not bad. She is between 15 and 15.2 hh, stocky compared to my ottb and Arab, but not a draft.

I don't know too much about cream genes, having never to deal with them in my type of horses...lol
I would guess Cremello or Perlino.
As for breed, so hard to say. Could be a QH / draft cross ( be it 50/50 or 75/25) or a big Appy/QH or...
I do know I'm sure she'll appreciate getting some lovin' and groceries! Sure would be nice to see her all fit up and looking healthy. :)

Oh, she's a pretty girl! I used to want a cremello really badly. You should post pictures of her this spring when she's all cleaned up and her winter coat's gone, she'll probably be gorgeous then! As far as breeds go I'd definitely say maybe Quarter Horse / draft (maybe an American Cream draft) or just a grade...I would say Mustang perhaps but they're usually on the shorter side.

Thanks for the replies! I was thinking qh cross too, especially in this part of the country. I can't wait to get her home an get her all cleaned and fattened up. I only saw her for a half an hour on Sunday, bit the rescue tells me she has taken everything very well, considering how little human interaction she has had. I'm hoping to make her a low level pony club/4-h mount for my sisters :)

She'll be so lucky to have you as her owner! - every time I see these rescue/adoption posts it warms my heart. Please keep us posted! :)

Thank you! I will :) anyone have opinions on why I should deworm her with? I'm sure she has worms!

Can you get a fecal work up done for her by the vet? That way you know exactly what to deworm her with instead of invading her body with tons of chemicals trying to take a shot in the dark.

She's beautiful! Love love love that roman nose. My guess would be appy x draft cross or qh x draft. Draft only being because of that face. How tall is she and do you have a name for her yet? :D

I can try, I not sure. Thanks, I will most defiantly take some new picks when she's home! Those are just the ones from the rescue :) I was thinking draft but she's not too stocky, similar to my friends paint probably, but more than my ottb and arab. She's between 15-15.2 hh :)

She could very easily be just a grade QH or appy then. Hard to tell with gals like this! I'm not aware if the cream gene even exists in appies or not...that would be helpful to know. I know it does in QH.

Fecal samples shouldn't cost you too much and almost any vet should be able to do it for you. It costs me $50 if I bring the sample in myself.
