Rescue horse breed?
Ok a friend of mine just rescued this gelding. He's her first horse. I didnt go with her so this is all I got Two other friends went with her, but their breed guesses are way off what I thought. Apparently he is gaited (which I'm not convinced), and holds his tail up (which a lot of horses do, but if it was extreme my first guess is that he's and qh/arab cross.) What's ur guesses?
And on a side note, he is OBVIOUSLY very skinny and she already has hay and grain waiting on him. She is waiting on the other friends to haul him home. And I already gave her the number of my farrier and vet.
If he is really gaited, then it depends on what type of gait he does. Just going off his appearance, he could be a full QH, a breeding stock paint, a cross of pretty much anything with one of the gaited breeds like STB, Walker, MFT, etc.
In other words, your guess is as good as mine.
Is it just the picture or is there really that much weirdness going on with his throatlatch area?
...or is what I'm seeing just some really oddly placed and poorly done photoshop job?
...or, looking again, it may just be the person's hand under his jaw...maybe.
Looks like a good old fashioned mutt to me
Once he has weight on him and fills out it should become more apparant, what type of breed he's built like. Right now he's just sad and skinny, so you can't really tell.
You know my first impression was 'long hair + hand under the jaw' but looking again it looks like a strange photoshop job. Or maybe light spot + bad pixelated picture.
All she could really see different that she noticed was his tail.
I had her look up walker and Paso gait, and she said nothing like that! Apparently all she saw was his tail up. Her first guess was arab, and not to be outsmarted by a newbie these other friends told her no it wasnt! And that he was Walker or Paso. He was about 14.2h and I told her that he is pony sized, and she said that to these two and they said he's 14.3h.. without measuring him.... Same people was trying to sell a stocky qh as fresian cross and another as a saddlebred... the saddlebred was funny bc someone called her out on it, haha....
What makes me made is the girl is trying to learn and they are cutting at her confidence instead of helping her learn... She guessed exactly as I would have and I think she is right and would like to boost her confidence!
I think I have noticed that they think if the horse rides smooth it's gaited....
His neck is thinner like a walker but he is so much smaller than average. And it could be the emaciation that is making his neck so slender. I mean a walker CAN be small, but.... you know....
Yea, I told her stock, but maybe qh or arab. The picture was taken on a cell phone... Horrible angle... but that's all she has. Poor horse though. She was worried about him being so skinny, but I talked her into it She really liked him and felt comfortable on him, so I told her get him!
A little fair warning to both you and your friend. Horses that act all mellow and nice when they're skinny like that don't always stay that way when they get fed up and a little fat.
I'm thinking tennessee walker, or kentucky mountian? I've never seen a quarter with a tail that high up on the hindquarters, and it's also very pointy.
He does have a thicker, shorter head, but not every gaited horse has a long skinny head.
I'd love to see him fed up! Please, post updated pics? :-)
I'm thinking his but is pointy bc his skinny too..... My mare I rescued is in the same condition and she's a qh and her butt looks exactly like this at the moment... BUT she's gained 50lbs in a week! This is week two and I need to measure her again and find if she's gained more! But you cant even see her ribs from far away now! YAY! I will definitely post updates! FOR BOTH!
