Contemplating a purchase.
This horse is where I work. Won't go into detail, but they're looking to sell him & a couple others.
I really like him, I feel like we've bonded already on the ground, its an unexplainable feeling, as I'm sure most of you know it!
I've been around horses for 13 years now, owning/training/riding/showing. I am looking at him for a Hunter/Jumper. Possibly low level eventing. He was started lightly under western, and he's about 6-7 years old.
I have my own ideas and opinions on him & his conformation, but I'd like to know what everyone thinks too. A second eye is always best in the horse world :)
Just another picture I thought was cute
Conformation shot, it surprisingly didn't take long, he was a good boy!
From the front (So cute he's blinking!)
From the behind
And lastly just a good shot of him hanging out with his buddy.
I had thought he was built a little downhill, but seeing these pics and standing on as flat of ground as I'd find, he doesn't look downhill that much anymore to me. I think its also partly because his coloring changes by his withers, it gives it the appearance of seeming lower.
And I do know his feet are pretty bad... they need to be done and they need to grow out a lot.
THANKS IN ADVANCE! :)[/img]
Oh and yes, he has a HUGE grass belly :p
Here's a short video of his trot/canter... at least what I could get of it, Haha.
Definatly a cutie. He is definatly downhill, and his hind legs seem like they grew a lot longer than they should have. But he is so beautiful and as long as you dont mind a downhill horse go for it.
so at first i was thinking about how he's not your typical build for a h/j or eventer... but he's just so cute it doesn't matter :)
It's hard to say with the pictures provided because they're not dead straight on the sides but his topline REALLY concerns me. I don't like the way it goes into his croup and is basically straight and just a little lumpy :? Again, it could be the pictures but that's just my 2 cents. What breed is he, how tall?
He is an Arabian/Paint, approximately 15.2h I'd say.
Yeah, I rode him today, and just the more I am around him and looking at him, I don't really favor his confirmation at all. :(
I think my horse search will continue.
I'm not really even looking for a horse right now, I just loved his markings and his personality. I really liked the way he's bonded with me it seems like already.
But I'll just work with him until he's sold or finds a home.
I don't think his confirmation is going to allow him to do anything I have in mind for him. He just isn't built for any of it. :(
I didn't notice that about his topline, but now that you pointed it out I definitely see it.
His front pasterns aren't even at all, they look like they belong on two different horses.
I don't like the looks of his off front leg at all.
His feet will need a TON of work - see the heel bulbs? They're on the ground! That poor boy has a heel, sure, but it's grown under his foot. He's going to need a lot of farrier work. Maybe that would do something about the wonky angles he has going on in his legs..?
He's cute, but those legs worry me.
You couldn't do any better for his coloring no doubt. A very flashy looking boy. What bothers me tho is his confo. He is quite downhill and tho I can't pinpoint what it going on with his legs, there is something that looks very odd about his general conformation. His coloring is going to make it difficult and might make him look off balance.
I never like the idea of starting off a horse from scratch at that age. By the time he is trained enough and experienced enough to be ridden by a youngster, he is going to be quite a bit older already and I'm not sure that it would be worth the time and money you put into his training.
