Sequester Facts, interesting

This is interesting:

Faceman 02-28-2013 01:15 PM

Yeah, the impact of the sequester is being exaggerated so much by Obama it is ridiculous. And of course he makes it sound as if Republicans are willing to sacrifice education for our children, and so on and so on. I'm getting tired of the liberal lies and rhetoric, and although there will llikely be an agreement to permit the moving around of funds rather than across-the-board cuts, I honestly have come to the conclusion I hope absolutely nothing is down and the cutbacks happen. Our government wastes, on the conservative side, probably 20% of its total budget - pure and simple waste. To think we can't cut back 2% or 3% is either stupidity, ignorance, or insanity.

Just as an example, Missouri has 67,796 teachers, 523 public school districts, and 917,982 students. Even assuming a 3% cut, which is on the high side, we would only lose 3.8 teachers PER DISTRICT, and the student teacher ratio would go from 13.4 students/teacher to 13.9 students/teacher. The change is insignificant.

Besides...far, far more than 3% of our teachers are incompetent to begin with. If we had any sense, we would purge our schools of the deadwood, which is likely around 25%, hire 15% back in the form of competent performers, and spend the available difference on pay raises. Everyone has their own opinion, but I would rather have my child in a class with 20 students and a competent teacher than 15 students and some yahoo that can themselves barely read and write...

Wish it included his vacation budget. Why on earth are the threatened service people not outraged and lining up at his door?

I propose GM gives the FEDS all those funded smart cars to pay back their debt, that alone would pay for all these cuts on saved gas.

Let it happen.

Well, we will see what the overall effects will be, since neither side wants to budge. BUT, here in NC we have a heavy reliance on our many ties with the military. Even the Republicans here are saying we need to be very worried.

Are the Democrats expanding the problem to get people off their butts and do something? No doubt.

Are the Republicans grossly understating the problem saying we have little to worry about and it will be just fine? Absolutely!

The only thing to do is wait and see, it seems.

A "cut" in D.C. only means the allocated money didn't increase. It is NOTHING like what we all have to do, to budget our expenditures. I don't want to hear anymore that both parties are at fault. That excuses the current behavior--OH, THEY do it, too!--as if an alcoholic can be excused bc somebody else drinks, too.
ANY politician who wastes our money should be tarred and feathered.
We could fix this outrageous spending is SO many ways. How about we don't give Syrian "Freedom Fighters" $50 billion, if we are "cutting" ~$85?
How about Federal departments convene in their Conference Rooms, instead of Las Vegas? How about ALL public officials justify their spending, instead of giving less to departments who economize and giving more to those who waste it? Did you KNOW that public schools, for instance, have to use all of their budgets or lose it? So, they waste public tax money in order to get the same next year. Whose world do they live in?!?
I choose to be proud that I have figured out how to spend less money than in 2012, less than in 2011, less than in 2010, less than in 2009, and less than in 2008.
They are out of control. Fortunately, most Americans don't care about this
"crises."

I bet if you add all those up, it is more than 85 Billion in the sequester

Of course we could save another few Billion if Politicians mainly Obama did not fly around the country 5 times a week for his town halls, why not Tele-Commute and save taxpayer money? Many business have, but of course a business has higher priorities than wasting someone else's money

Then of Course no one is talking about how Obama was for the Sequester last year... how soon some liberals forget the facts :-(

As silly as this seems, this is the same way corporations function. If you don't spend it, it means that you really didn't need it when you asked for it the last budget cycle.

dbarabians 02-28-2013 07:12 PM

I agree with Faceman at least some cuts are being made. It is also likely that money will just be reshuffled among government agencies .
Neither the republicans or democrats have the gonads to tighten their belts and make the necessary cuts that might lead to a reduced budget deficit.
Thats why they voted to allow these automatic cuts. They can claim to be innocent when the next election cycle arrives. Shalom

Sequestration does nothing but SLOW the rate of INCREASE of debt - we are not "saving" anything because the debt is still increasing. Sequestration is supposed to reduce the deficit by 1.2 - 1.5 trillion over a 10 year period. We increase our debt by that amount ANNUALLY. IOW, 10 years of sequestration would only cover ONE year of debt increase.

Think of it this way:

5,130,000.000.000 = TOTAL Revenue generated
6,230,000,000,000 = TOTAL Spending
1,100,000,000,000 = ADDED to national debt
16,432,000,000,000 = New debt total
85,000,000,000 = Cuts from sequestration

Now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget…

Annual family income: 51,300
Amount family spent: 62,300
New debt added to credit card: 11,000
Outstanding balance on credit card: 164,320
Total cuts to family budget: 850

They will close military commissaries on wednsdays if no agreement is met. Ooooow, that should save us all! So, they what, turn off all the power on "off days", and expiration dates are "frozen in time"? Okie dokey. That is just a trick as old as Rome, cut services that are "in your face" and blame in on something (usually needing to increase taxes, but in this case ... "the other side").

And, all those poor non-essential federal employees that will be furloughed (boo hoo)? Well, every time this has happened in the past...they got back pay. It is called a vacation by most.
