My boy Alfie has been very itchy for the last few months now, it wasn't that bad at first but now it seems to be getting worst. He'll rub his neck on the fence posts all the time abs when i take his rug off he'll bite his self all over coz hes so itchy!!! When I took his rug off yday I noticed scabs on his neck where the hair had come off. Don't really know what t can be he hasn't got flees. Wonder if he could just be an itchy horse? Any suggestions ? Thanks

Could be lice, mites, ringworm, allergies, lots of things... Have you been trying to treat with anything?

It' doesn't look anything like rig worm so I doubt it's that. And if it was Lice my other horse would have them as we'll but she hasn't. No i haven't treated him with anything yet I'm going to look on line for something tonight

It's so annoying I just don't know what it could be!! Iv sprayed him with lice and flee spray but it hasn't made a difference and I can't give him a bath to clean out all the dirt in his coat coz its freezing here!! Have you done anything with your horse that has helped ?

Soa soap helps w the itchies, but since it is freezing there it might be hard to bathe him with it well (i.e., really get it worked into the skin and let it sit for a bit). Having a scraping taken and analyzed is pretty reasonable - and gives you valuable info.
