App for xc
Just joined the 21st century and got a smart phone. Does anyone have this course walk app? Is it useful just for recognized courses or does it have a use at schooling shows? Is it worth $10?
i dont know ! i havent joined the 21st century yet =P
^^^ hey neither have I! still hanging on for dear life to my analog phone!
Yeah, I didn't think I needed a smart phone, but now that I have it, I have to admit it is a lot of fun to use. I can't believe I beat anyone to the 21st century. I thought I was the last hold out. Just got a digital tv last year. I feel like a grownup.
I have this one for my iphone... CrossCountry App for iPhone and iPad
I love it, I use it at all my events. It saves walking the course with a trundle wheel, the minute markers are accurate and you can add video, photo, comments etc.
I think it is worth the money :)
I love the CourseWalk app, personally. When it was in testing mode you could get it really cheap and it was still pretty glitchy, but it's gotten a lot better now and is pretty accurate. :)
I have the CourseWalk app and love it! Very cool and helpful, especially with the minute markers it adds in. I had it for a while but had never used it, then I started using it this year and won't walk a cross country course without it again, haha.
How does it work? Does it just tell you that you walked out 100 meters and you insert your minute marker?
It uses the GPS, you enter your speed and optimum time to start. Then you stand in the start box and start the app, and walk the course like normal. You stop at each fence and hit a button to mark that there's a fence or combination, and you can take a photo and make notes about each fence if you like. It automatically inserts the minute markers based on the time and speed you entered, and if you use a eventing watch that beeps every minute, it's increbibly helpful! Using this app and the minute markers, I have always made time! I love it! It beeps to mark the minute marker when you are walking the course, so you can make a note of where you should be. Of course you could always wheel your course and figure out the minute markers that way, but I like just using the app, I don't have to do the math and I don't need to bring anything extra with me!
After you're done walking your course is sets it all up on a map with markers for the jumps and minute markers, and you can "play" the course and it will walk you through. Here's a few of my courses from last year, just so you can see, you have the option to upload your course to the website afterwards, which is what I did.

If you hit the playback button it will play the course and show the jumps for you. Green boxes are for each jump, and the white bubbles are the minute markers.
