ISON is coming

Comet ISON might turn out to be "brighter than the moon". How exciting! Kind of added "fun"..being 2013, and all.

Hope to get a glimpse somehow!

There will be two comets, so twice the fun! :D Comet PANSTARRS will also make an appearance...

Whoa! Neat! Thanks for the link! I especially appreciate the "where to look" diagrams in the link, even I can follow those. :D

I love shooting stars. Well, a few years back they announced, "oh, oh...there will be a big huge meteor shower", and it was suppose to be best visible at like 2 or 3 a.m. my time. Well, I got up...everyone else had specifically said "do not wake me". I have pretty much an unobstructed full view of the sky. Nada...zip! I was soooo disappointed, but sure glad I didn't talk them into getting up. :D Soooo...I like the "you can see it clearly for days" kind of events.

Me too, I'm somewhat of an astronomy buff.... I'd love to see something like these two comets. Also been wanting to head over to our local planetarium this year sometime, but sure would be great if we can really see these just by looking up to the sky. Can't wait!

I just enjoy the beauty of the stars and the amusement of "how long ago" the light left them sort of thing. I can't name to many things in it, though. :D You would enjoy it here, they have star gazing parties frequently (DD and DH have gone to a few). They consist of amateurs setting up their telescopes (from what I hear, some of them are pretty fancy) and everyone runs from one to the other to see what they have in their sights.

Thanks for the two links! I can't wait. I remember watching the Hale-Bopp comet for hours, just reveling in the cosmic beauty.

It was just so classic with the great tail. I hope these two will be just as neat!!

Just found this.

Comet PANSTARRS on the evening of April 6, 2013. This view is to the east that evening. The oval near the comet is the Andromeda galaxy.

Comet ISON on the morning of December 10, 2013. The view is toward the east before dawn..

Now let's all hope for clear skies. LOL.

Here's a bit about that meteor which exploded over Russia for the space junkies on this board:

Meteor lurked for thousands of years before blasting Russia, experts say - Cosmic Log

I don't know - I keep looking at the picture of ISON, and it looks like it is headed straight for your house. Do you have comet insurance?
