Is your barn decorated?
Now that our barn is almost complete I feel like it needs a little something, above our stalls is the hay loft and that wall is covered in tongue and grove. I'm just wondering if anyone has decorated their barn? I would want to keep it simple with things that could be "dusted" with the leaf blower. Maybe some metal signs? What's your opinion? Does this sound crazy?
Mine is decorated with cobwebs, baling twine, and a lot of old, dead wasp nests that I can't reach to knock down.
I've seen some decorated barns, so it's certainly not a crazy idea. Just remember, it'll get dirty faster and stay dirty longer than your house.
I decorate at christmas. Thats about it, since my barn doesn't have a loft and is metal sided with 2x6 kick board siding about head high. I do have stall plates and fancy bridle racks but thats about it. I have seen some very nice and very decorated ones as well though. Usually things of metal or horseshoes hold up the best in that sort of environment. I know of one barn that had stain glass windows installed in the tack room. Speed is right, don't put anything out there that you would mind getting dirty and dusty, because despite your best efforts, it WILL happen.
We have a bunch of cute little wooden signs with horse sayings on them; "Horse lovers welcome here." "Time in the saddle is never wasted." "Have you hugged your horse today?" things like that. We have metal signs and printouts of cartoons that we find or people send to us. These are all in our grain/tack room.
Mine is really only decorated with random "western" type decor in the office and whatever people put on their stalls. One boarder puts up decorations for every holiday on her mare's door. Otherwise, each stall just has a one-page decorated name tag sort of thing. Think scrapbooking. They are laminated to prevent being destroyed in daily barn business.
Thank you for the tips! I'll stick with things that are easily cleaned and don't show dirt.
