What color is my mare?

I have a hard time with appys! And she just keeps getting more white! But my mare is the one in the pic at a show and in the one with me in the blue shirt. The blue shirt one is her actual base coat color, but it doesn't show all the white! I'm thinking a liver chestnut??.. Maybe??
The Impulsive Zipper one is her daddy.

Also what do you guys think of her crossed with a flea bitten grey? Who is mainly just grey! He has hardly any little "flea bites".

Thanks(:

She is chestnut as a base color. Looks like she carries the varnish gene. Her sire is varnish.

Thanks! I really don't like the showmanship picture of her, doesn't show off her very feminine face :/ but shows her color well!

I agree with chestnut base.
As for a cross with a grey, it depends on whether or not the sire is homo or heterozygous for grey and whether or not he passes on his grey gene.
If he does, the foal will grey though there is no guarentee that it will have fleebites like the sire.

How about her current color pattern?? Any ideas?

She is definitely a chestnut base. You can tell this by the way her lower legs get paler towards the hoof rather than darker or the same colour. As for her current pattern, it looks like she has a small blanket and varnish. The blanket is the solid white area over her haunches. The varnish is the roanish white hairs. As she gets older, the varnish will probably spread further, and given enough time, she could become quite close to being all over white. The colour will usually remain on the hard bony parts - hips, parts of the face etc.

THANK YOU!!! She has changed so much since birth! When she was born she had three perfectly circular white spots on each side of her butt. Not a single white hair anywhere else. I love watching Appys change over time!

As said, she is chestnut, varnish roan with a blanket. Her high white and wide blaze are a legacy of Plaudette through Bright Eyes Brother.

FYI, generally it is frowned upon to breed grey into Appys...grey is not a desired trait in Appys...
