1971 BLM horse law
From an old newspaper it states that in 1971 the law was amended to allow people who had cared for a mustang or burro for a period of one year that they would now own it. It was in Colorado that one would apply for ownership. I wonder if that law has been amended again of if it's still on the books.

That's still the case. I adopted my mustang in October 2011. In October 2012, I got the application for his title, and in December 2012 he became officially 100% mine!

AFAIK, it is still on the books. When adopting a horse or burro thru BLM you have to care for them for 1 yr before you receive actual ownership of the animal. They are also entitled to visit and check up on that animal during that time period....
