Bay-Rulls?

(Meant to be pronounced as barrels, just in a strange questioning tone)

At practice today, three barrels were laid out. During our games on horse back, the weave was always my favorite thing to do, and the three barrels were set out in a linear row of three.

My instruction said the exercise was called speed barrels, which are just like our weave, but with barrels, and in a row of three.

So, I said: challenge accepted.

Walked a couple times to pattern, got comfortable and trotted once before going for a canter. I was on Brown, and he isn't the fastest horse, but he can turn on a dime. Man! It was awesome. I usually have trouble keeping him in a canter as we turn, which was mostly due to my poor balance. Get to the barrel, and he didn't break! It was AWESOME.

Anywho... After we did a couple runs, he got quite a bit of praise and it got me to thinking:
Since I love speed events so much, and I really enjoy what I do, and the exhilaration... Why not do barrels?

so... How do I start? I don't intend on doing shows any time soon, and my lease does barrel racing... So... Yeah... Would I be any good?

Brown, nope. Mexican mustang who did parades, does gaming, and jousts though. : )

Titan, my lease, does them, but I think before I get used to HIS power... (He is seventeen hands tall, and loves to run) I might dink around on brown. : p

Thanks drumrunner! I will look into it for sure!

Every gymkhana I've been to calls it speed barrels, and it's my FAVORITE event to do. My mare's too. It was the first event I really PUSHED her in, and the first speed event she ever won and kept winning consistently.

I think you could do it. Even if he's not the fastest horse now, you can build his conditioning to "running" shape through lots of the slow work and gradually getting faster. Selena was never fast until she got in shape either.

Brown loves his gaming. I don't think I'd show in him, but I definitely would love to practice on him to get my confidence up.

We are a bit sloppy, but I hope with lessons from Titan's owner, we can really improve till I'm ready for the big guns. : )

I asked my instructor to time us, and we got 39 seconds on our second to last go. I'm sure we can shave it off, and I'm aiming for 35 next time.

Also, just read the sticky thread, I really appreciate the information there. I hope to utilize it soon!

Will do! His owner says he isn't super fast, but he is consistent, which is better than being fast. : p.

But compared to the midgets I ride most of the time... His gait seems huuuuuge.
