I'm new to the forum and to being a horse owner. I have a 8yr old mare named Bella. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question so here it goes. I'm planning to build a run in shelter for her and was wondering if it made any difference in which direction I should face the opening. It will be a 3 sided shelter. Should I put it east or south or what? This is my very first time of owning a horse and want to be a good owner for her. I've learned a lot, but would be grateful for any advice you can help me with. As I love my horse very much!
Thank you in advance
Opening to the South or the East.
I would probably face my opening to the south to get the low south sun in the winter.
I think the opening on the shelter should be placed on the side that gets the least amount of rain. For example, if your storms come from the northwest mostly and the wind would drive the rain to the southwest, then put the opening in the direction of the southeast. Hope that makes sense.
Welcome to HF being in SD I would also say South or east with that burrr wind I know ya'll get we get it here too.. Congrats on your horse and we LOVE pictures
^^^ Yes, we build ours to open to the southeast.
