Okay, so I just wanted to tell you all the Breeze and I are getting help with our training! Sometime, maybe tomorrow, a friend will come out and help, and then maybe next week, or in 2 weeks, I am getting groundwork lessons from a proffesional trainer (she is a trainer, breeder and shower, also has boarding, and gives lessons) So I will be doing everything myself, as I would like, but getting hands on help.
I know a lot of you have told me to get a trainer... but I am not... I am getting hands on help. It is still me training my horse, but with help from others.
Just thought I would let all you know! Hopefully things will work out, and Breeze and I will be able to have the trust and respect we need!
Getting a trainer doesn't necessarily mean sending a horse off, it just means getting someone experienced to help.
Good for you! Let us know your progress! A lot of people find it helpful to document their training sessions so they can keep track of progress.

Will do! Maybe once we get going, and I am off with her taking lessons, I will post a thread of Breezes progress.
I don't see why this thread wouldn't be good for that...Getting help sounds like a great title for learning and teaching...
Looking forward to reading the progress..
Also you would be amazed at how many people you might help. I can't count the number of times I did not ask a question about my horse or a friends horse because of posts I've read. Posts also sometimes give insight on something I may not have considered.

Good for you :)
Well maybe I will get the mods to change the name to Getting Help-Breeze's Progress?? Or something, so you know what thread to go to!
Breezy - glad to hear you are getting help and long may it continue!
I have a woman and her horse here. Three years ago I helped her with breaking her horse, a lovely gelding with no problems at all.
She moved the horse from where she was keeping it to a place next door to me. Problems started, mainly from the rider being unsure and nervous. The horse became very bad in traffic (and we have to ride on the roads to get anywhere) Eventually the owner asked me for help. She wanted me to ride the horse but I refused. I knew he would be fine with me and she had made the problems and needed to sort them herself.
First time we went on the road the rider was nearly sick with fear. I felt awful for her but, by the end of the hour she was a lot happier.
A week later with me ponying her from one of my horses, things were looking up.
Now she has moved her horse to be kept here. The horse is different in that he is happier. The owner is a different person, she is far more confident, she is not afraid to correct the horse with the little things, and, when she is working I can 'top up' the horse's education by riding him out for her. The traffic problems have all but disappeared because of her change of attitude.
We all need help every now and then. I have a great deal of respect for Cherie, I know that should we meet then we would both have similar yet different ways of doing things but, like to think that we both could still learn from each other.
My Grandmother had a saying "You can learn from anyone - even an idiot can teach you how not to do something!"
I hope it works well for you.
Thank you Foxhunter. Even though I am not scared or nervous around Breeze, I must admit that I DID let her get away with things that I should not have... and I am having to pay the price now. I am NOT letting her get away with anything now.
So here is an update for you guys:
So my friend did not come out because of bad weather (making me not go out either) so we had to put off work. Greatfully (as much I don't want to admit it) it snowed a lot, covering up all the ice. My friend is going to come out tomorrow (Wesnesday, March 20th) to help, and the trainer I am going to get lessons from will hopefully have the round pen set up in the indoor this week... so I can start there next week, or in 2 weeks.
ANYWAYS!!! Today I went out by myself. Yesterday I went out, and I did not even put a halter on Breeze, and she was pushy, plowing me and my sister over to get to something and just being disrespectful. Today I said that was going to change. No thought about it.
So I went out, I put a halter on, checked her ringworm (which is healing quite well, should be gone in a couple weeks) and got right to work. She was being pushy and wouldn't stop when I asked.
I should say right now, throughout the 20 minutes I was working with her, we had a few meet Jesus moments.
Okay, but I made her move her hindquarters, back up, stop, and then I moved on to lunging. Well... many of you know how lunging is with Breeze. She was running all over the place, so every time I thought she would put up more of a fight... I would cluck, point and MAKE her listen and keep her attention on me, until she did 1 nice circle around me each way.
She was still being pushy, not listening to me once we quit lunging me and just being a brat... so of course, like I said, I had had enough with her not listening, and I MADE her listen.
Long story short, by the end she WAS listening to me, I made her stay out of my space. I could tell she wanted to move, as she was swaying forward a little bit, but all she did was put her head down and sniff. I am trying to read Breeze better, and I could tell she really wanted to move, but her feet stayed planted. I dropped the rope and kinda ground tied her, walked big full circles around her... and still her feet stayed planted. When I was done, I invited her in, by calling her name and saying come (yes... she will come when her name is called) and she came in. I made her put her head down and I took the halter off. I lunged her one more time with just the rope around her neck, and not one little fit, she didn't even pin her ears, she just went with it.
I hope tomorrow when my friend comes, I will know what to do when she does sometime disrespectful. Today, I think she finally got through her head that she had had her fun, but now she has to listen, or she will have a 'meet Jesus' moment and will not get away with it. Hopefully she remembers!
Sorry for the long update, and sorry if it doesn't make much sense, but I just got home and words are spilling out of my mouth. Lol.
