symptoms of thrush?
Thrush is one of the few infections/diseases/whatever it is that I don't know a thing about so can someone help me out? I noticed for a few days that my horses foot smells bad. Of course the first thing I thought it could be is thrush.she doesn't seem to have any pain or anything. Is there anything else it could be and what are the other symptoms of thrush?

They can be thrushy without any smell, but smell is a sign that thrush might be established. Tatty ragged frogs are also a sign. Black liquid if really bad.

Good question, but ifthere are shoes on then you might not know it is painful as it often only really shows when barefoot. If there is a strong smell I would definitely treat for thrush anyway as it can eat in very deep (and usually has by the time it smells).

Stinky feet (it has a pretty bad smell) is your first clue. It is kind of hard to miss unless it is hidden in folds (in which case, the folds need to be examined and what can safely be removed - removed, and the the rest treated). Otherwise, as a rule the top layers of the infected area are discolored (may be hard to see on a black frog) and "soft" ( can easily be scraped off). If my horses have stinky feet, but I can't clearly see thrush, I treat them for it anyway w lysol, betadine and 50/50 ointment - none of which will hurt anything.
