How the HECK do I find a place to board?
I'm moving like 3500km this spring to Saskatchewan with one (maybe two) horses.
The place I'm moving to is quite small (around 5000 people I think?) and not located near any larger centers. I've never boarded before so this is very new to me.
I posted a "looking for" ad on Kijiji, but am wondering what other steps I can take to try and find a place to board?
I'm lucky in that I have family only about 3 hours from where I'm moving so I can drop my horses off there for a bit until I find a place, but I'd really love to have a place found ASAP so I could bring my horses sooner, y'know?
I'm sure someone else has been in this situation before!

You might be surprised, in smaller towns the sometimes a lot of horses. Meaning a good chance of finding yours a place to stay. Maybe stop by a few places that have horses and ask around.

My daughter will be in a similar position when she moves away to grad school this fall ( not so far away, but far enough...) You could find a large animal vet in the area and ask for suggestions. Or a farrier.. they know everyone and everything! I think either one would be good resources, and would know who treats their horses well. Good luck!
that's a good idea, maybe I'll try calling the nearest vet clinic! Also was thinking about trying any feed stores/farm equipment places.
The problem is that I'd like to find a place BEFORE I move so I could bring my horses with me then... but if I can't, my plan was to stop in at anywhere that had horses (and preferably a roundpen and arena haha) and ask. Asking can't hurt, right?
Feed stores, tack stores, vet clinics, farriers.
Hit FB and try "Canda horse people" or Saskatchewan horse lovers or something like that, you would be surprised what pops up.
If all else fails, PM me and I will get you to some of my friends in that area that I trust.
I would check out the place before you move your horses there that is the only advice I could add everybody els has said what I would do,just one check out and horse clubs
Where bouts in Sask you headin to? You will find plenty of horse breeders speckled throughout the province who I'm sure wouldn't mind some extra cash being brought it with a boarder. The warmblood farm I worked at years ago had several boarders.
ah facebook is a great idea I'll try that!
I tried googling associations, clubs, etc and can't find much in "Northern" Saskatchewan.... lots down south but nothing near Meadow Lake where I'm moving. All I found was this Kanadiana riding academy but they have no website and the newest talk I've found on them on forums is from like 2005. I'll try calling them though.
I'm going to call the vet to see what vaccines most people require to board and will ask about boarding then
For facebook groups-- look up...

and maybe post looking for info there. Good luck with everything! I'm sure there are a couple places up there.
