Do horses commonly pee in the float?
I was always told that horses will never pee in a float, and that you should always whistle to convince a horse to pee before you put it on a long float journey.
However, just the other day my friend was treated to the disgusiting sight while driving behind me of gallons of pony pee cascading out from under the door of my float. Sadly not video was available, but the event was repeated a few weeks later when driving out from the gates of a large show, we stopped momentarily to open a gate and heard hyterical laughter behind us as my horse once again treated innocent fair-goers to a yellow waterwall on the road.
So my question is, is this common? Or have I just never heard of it?
Horses generaly dont like going in trailers or lorries but will do so. If ou have bedding down then they will.
My pony will only go in the trailer at shows, no where else!
Ahh, Fayo, you understand the embarrassment. Quite a humbling experience, Yes?
Especially if the show is not strictly *horsey* and giggling members of the general public are in the vicinity.
not realy. My horse current horse will go in the trailer, my last pony would decide to go right in the middle of the showring.
Its a natural process and they are animals even non horsey people should understand that you generaly have no control of when they go the loo or not. I dont find it embarassing as generaly i have more important things to worry about.
Some will go, some wont. The whistling thing is a bit of a myth - unless you've trained your horse to go when you whistle all you're doing is providing background music.

IME, some pee, some don't but I've yet to find a horse that won't poop in one. In fact, when time comes to get a sample to send out for worming I just usually pop them in the trailer-saves time and effort LOL.
My Horses used to "hold it" all day just to mess up the trailer, must be payback because they know we were taking them somewhere to work
I don't know how they do it - but they can poop before but still somehow find more poop for the trailer. That is when I tell my horses they are full of it!
But I haven't had a horse pee yet to my knowledge.
Heck, my BO uses that trick (putting them in a trailer) if she thinks a horse maybe a bit colicky and needs a good poop.
My horses pee in the trailer quite often. It gets slippery with poo and pee on the rubber mats so I always have my trailer well bedded with shavings to keep them upright.
