Buck's New Bling - Rhythm Beads!
I really liked the idea of rhythm beads, but all the sets I've seen online were made with yucky plastic pony beads. Therefore I did what any self-respecting jewelry maker would do - I made my own!
These rhythm beads are made with antique white heart trade beads and glass crow beads strung over a cotton core. I included a few nazar beads to ward off the "evil eye" as a nod to Buck's Arabian ancestry. Since glass beads last pretty much forever I'll probably restring this four or five more times until I'm happy with it. I'd like to replace the large bell in the middle with a large nazar, get some slightly more exotic looking bells and eventually string it over polyester twine.
I toyed with the idea of making these for sale, but the material cost alone was higher then some of the cheap plastic sets I've seen listed on Etsy.
They're beautiful! I'm collecting various beads and bells now to make a set for my mare. You know, for when we play dress up! :D
Very pretty ;)
Though I am clueless as to what rhythm beads are - just to 'bling' your horse, or do they supposedly affect the horse in some way??
I've read a lot of reasons for their use, most of which sound like horse manure to me. I made these because they're pretty and the jingling sound does come in handy for night rides.
Very nice! I've thought about making some, too since I also hate those plastic pony beads. Thanks for posting - I like how your's came out!
